St. Louis Metro Collegiate welcomes Lonnie back for his second stint as a coach in our program. Lonnie, a St. Louis native and 1985 graduate of Ritenour High School, played collegiately for Coach Ric Lessmann at Meramec Community College. Lonnie was a standout athlete in high school and college as well. He was drafted in the 10th round of the 1986 amateur draft (January) by the Cincinnati Reds but did not sign. He was then drafted by the Cardinals in the 3rd round of the 1986 amateur draft, (June Secondary) and signed at the deadline almost a year later after his second college season. Lonnie was a member of the 1986 Metro League Championship team coached by former Major Leaguer Neil Fiala and also played in 1987 prior to reporting to professional baseball. Lonnie was called up to the big leagues in the fall of 1993 and later that year picked up as a free agent with San Diego. Lonnie played and coached in the minor leagues and set team and league batting records throughout his playing career. Lonnie is well known and admired throughout the St. Louis baseball community.
